    Re: I wasn't alive for Reggie's heroics

but i dont think strength should be pre requisite to being a great athlete

and im not saying KG isnt strong, but hes not overly strong, like OL strong.

but i think strength truly has little to do with being a better athlete than someone.

    Re: I wasn't alive for Reggie's heroics

the strength thing is all relative much like speed etc

you can have an OL that is a physically athletic freak.......but obviously not compare to a RB or WR

    Re: I wasn't alive for Reggie's heroics

as for stats......you could be the most physically gifted WR ever to play the game.......but if you have the most miserable qb ever......are your stats really going to be that impressive?

does that mean you arent a great athlete?

    not in my eyes

but overtly excessive success, like rice's, that transcended generations, albeit from two high class QBs, if you look at what he did on the field, he puts himself in a different class.

its all competition, the best WRs beat every corner in the league. if you had to beat 30 great DBs instead of 8 great DBs a year, ie don hudson, lance alworth, etc....

it evens itself out in my eyes

    does that make sense?

    damn its late

put rice on the packers or colts of the mid 80s

is he still good? absolutely.......does he retire with every record imaginable?

    very doubtful

    Re: I wasn't alive for Reggie's heroics

thats jus somethin that you cant really count on, cause you never really know what would have happened.

success makes you the greatest, if not how else? i can see extra ordinary circumstances, but even players like bo jackson, they were at the elite level before the injury, etc...

is he the greatest ever? no, probably not.

he the best athlete to play the position? probably

bo was the exception only because before he got hurt he was on a path to be the best in both baseball and football at his position.......such a feat could truly have crowned him the great athlete ever
